His skill in lettering, charcoal art, rubber stamp carving, and other art forms allowed him to pursue formal training in the College of Fine Arts in the University of the East–Caloocan. During his time there, he developed a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"\u003edeep interest in native spirituality and mythology\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"\u003e, nurtured alongside like-minded peers.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none white-space-prewrap\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"a_GcMg white-space-prewrap font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"\u003eHe returned to Siquijor and led the revival of the tawtaw\/anitu, the carved wooden representation of ancestral spirits in pre-colonial Philippines. Today, thanks to Jerom, these wooden idols are displayed in Siquijor’s major establishments, such as government offices, restaurants, resorts, inns, and more. He also sells his paintings, mythological sculptures, and other handcrafted works throughout Siquijor.
