SYNOPSIS:
Ivatan Traditional House: A Construction and Maintenance Manual is a documentation of the Ivatan vahay, or traditional stone house. A reflection of the history of Batanes, the Ivatan houses were introduced by the Spanish conquerors and first appeared in the 18th century. They were quickly adopted by the Ivatans due to their functionality and design which withstood the harsh climate of the islands. While they cannot be called indigenous, the Ivatan house is considered an important historical and cultural heritage of the Philippines.
